Gujarat is emerging as a Biotechnology hub. The landscape of Biotechnology industries consist of more than 50 Biotech companies and 66 support organization. The thrust area of Gujarat Biotech Industries includes healthcare, pharmaceutical, agriculture biotechnology, industries enzymes bioinformatics, contract research, marine and environmental biotechnology. The present turnover of biotechnology industries in Gujarat has been around USD 150-175 million.

Government Initiative :

Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM) has been constituted to encourage new entrepreneur in biotech and attract new investment in State.

Gujarat State Biotechnology Venture Fund (GSBVF) is set up by the State to support entrepreneur with an initial corpus USD 12.5 of million (Rs. 50 Crore).

To encourage investment in Biotechnology government has introduced Biotechnology Policy 2007-2012. Under the policy, state proposed to develop specific Zone and Parks. State proposes to promote biotech research and strengthen industrial-academic linkages
