Healthcare Facilities and Medical Colleges.
The Government
of Gujarat has always been conscious of it's responsibilities
to provide state of the art medicare. Over the
past 3 decades, the government has been instrumental
in supporting the growth of state of the art facilities
for cancer treatment and research at GCRI, Ahmedabad,
Kidney and urology related ailments at the IKDRC,
Ahmedabad and Cardiac diseases at the UN Mehta
Cardiac Institute. All these 3 major facilities
are situated in the Civil Hospital Campus which
is a Medicity spread over 110 Acres.
Corporatisation
and Privatization of the health sector has received
a big boost in the last 15 years. All the multi-speciality
hospitals have their own diagnostic facilities,
laboratory and imaging backup. Advanced facilities
are also available; for instance, Gujarat is home
to PRATHMA, the technology enhanced blood bank
in Ahmedabad.
WHO to represent
India in an exclusive regional quality assurance
programe, granted a Grade A CRISIL rating and
is designated as a "Research Centre"
by the Department of Science and technology, Govt.
of India.
Advanced radiology
and imaging facilities are available at X-Ray
House in Ahmedabad, and advanced radiology, imaging
and nuclear medicine facilities are available
at the Samved Hospital in Ahmedabad.

The Gujarat Cancer
Research Institute at Ahmedabad offers treatment
facility for all cancer patients. Medical surgical
and radiotherapy and supportive pain clinic and
rehabilitative services are well developed. Paediatric
and Neurosurgical oncology specialities - including
skull base surgery and nuclear medicine facilities
are also provided.
Bone marrow transplantation
is done in the Cancer Hospital (GCRI) and the
Kidney Institute (IKDRC). The Allogenic stemcell
transplants are conducted at the Kidney Institute.
The Cancer Hospital in Ahmedabad is headed by
the renowned oncophysician, Dr. Pankaj Shah.
